GHHB Celebrates Black History Month With Dominican Independence Day

We began our celebration of Black History Month, by explaining the African Diaspora; which is what bought African people to the Western world. Our goal in doing this was to make sure we understand  that we’re connected as African people, by way of the African Diaspora.

Today, in honor of Dominican Independence Day; which is celebrated today February 27th, we would like for you to learn about Dominican Independence Day. The Dominican Republic has a large population of African descendants, therefore its befitting that we honor Dominican Independence Day.

Dominican Independence Day took place in 1844, on this very day February 27th.  The Dominican Republic gained his independence from Haiti; who  ruled over the island. Let us all celebrate our differences and embrace the very thing that connects us all Africa!
